Oticon Zeal: Nearly Invisible Hearing Technology Now at Port Jefferson
We're excited to offer Oticon Zeal, the newest hearing aid from Oticon, and one that genuinely changes what a small, discreet hearing aid can do. For years, patients who wanted an invisible or nearly invisible hearing aid had to accept trade-offs — no Bluetooth streaming, no rechargeable battery, less advanced processing. Oticon Zeal eliminates most of those trade-offs in a device that sits almost entirely inside your ear canal.
What Makes Zeal Different From Other Small Hearing Aids?
Oticon Zeal is powered by the same Sirius chip platform as Oticon's flagship Intent hearing aid. That means you're getting premium-level AI-driven sound processing in a device that most people won't even notice you're wearing.
Traditional completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aids have always been limited by their size. Until now, fitting a rechargeable battery, Bluetooth connectivity, and advanced processing into a device small enough to sit inside the ear canal simply wasn't practical.
Oticon solved this with a new manufacturing process called encapsulation — the internal components are sealed in a protective resin material (similar to how pacemakers and spacecraft components are protected), which allows for tighter, more efficient packing of electronics while also dramatically improving moisture and debris resistance. The result is an IP68-rated device that's far more durable than traditional in-canal aids.
Key Features of Oticon Zeal
Nearly invisible fit with same-day option. Zeal uses an instant-fit dome — the same domes used for Oticon Intent — so in many cases, patients can be fit and walk out the same day. Custom micro-molds are also available for those who need or prefer them. Oticon reports a good fit in approximately two out of three patients using the instant-fit option.
Rechargeable all-day battery. The lithium-ion battery delivers up to 20 hours of use with typical streaming. A 15-minute quick charge provides around 4 hours of use, and the portable SmartCharger holds enough power for three full charges on the go.
AI-driven speech processing. Zeal runs Deep Neural Network 2.0 (DNN 2.0) — always on, continuously analyzing your sound environment to separate speech from noise. Oticon's MoreSound Intelligence 3.0 works alongside the DNN to adapt processing based on how easy or difficult your listening environment is.
Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast. Zeal streams audio directly from iPhones and compatible Android devices, supports hands-free calling on Apple iOS and newer Android devices, and includes Auracast — a broadcast audio technology that lets you connect directly to sound systems in theaters, airports, restaurants, and other public venues. This level of connectivity has historically been unavailable in hearing aids this small.
BrainHearing technology. Oticon's approach to hearing care centers on giving the brain access to a full, balanced sound environment rather than narrowing focus to a single direction. This is designed to reduce listening fatigue and support more natural hearing over the course of the day.
Who Is Oticon Zeal a Good Fit For?
Zeal is worth discussing if you:
- Have mild to moderately severe hearing loss (the instant-fit domes cover this range; custom micro-molds can extend fitting into the lower end of severe loss)
- Have been hesitant to try hearing aids because of how they look
- Currently wear in-the-ear hearing aids and want to add modern streaming and rechargeability
- Want a discreet option without giving up the technology you need
A few things worth knowing: Zeal has a single microphone per ear, compared to the dual-microphone setup in behind-the-ear styles like Oticon Intent. It also does not include a telecoil. For patients with more significant hearing loss or specific acoustic needs, a receiver-in-canal style may still be the stronger recommendation — and that's a conversation we're happy to have with you at your appointment.
How We Fit Oticon Zeal at Port Jefferson Hearing
At Port Jefferson Hearing, every hearing aid fitting — including Oticon Zeal — includes Real Ear Measurement (REM). This is a verification process where a small probe microphone measures the sound pressure level at your eardrum while the hearing aids are in place, allowing us to adjust amplification to match your specific prescription and ear anatomy.
REM is estimated to be used in only 25–40% of hearing aid fittings nationwide, but we use it as a standard part of every fitting. It's one of the most effective ways to confirm that your hearing aids are performing the way they should for your individual hearing needs.
We also offer a no-obligation trial period so you can experience Zeal in your actual daily environments — at home, at work, in noisy restaurants — before making any decisions.
